The Red Lineage Prints by Ubi Workshop
MATH, May 13, 2016

A few years ago Ubi Workshop challenged the creators of Assassin’s Creed to give us a new perspective on the characters they designed. That’s when the project of the Red Lineage prints was created. Each of the signed and limited (to 300 units) giclée print was designed to reflect the influence of the Assassins with a background that echoed the era of the games. This collection of seven exquisite art prints were reproduced on Textured Fine Art White paper (310 GSM / 100% Cotton, size: 10” x 13”). Each were sold at a 69,99 US$ price tag and started to be shipped to the fans in July 2014.

You will find below the pictures of the prints with each selected characters of the franchise for this project, revisited by Art Director Nicolas Drolet and Senior Concept Artists Remko Troost and Vincent Gaigneux , each with thoughts from them and also from Raphael Lacoste, Art Director of the Assassin’s Creed brand. Those thoughts can be found written inside each of the slip case that were nicely crafted by the Ubi Workshop team to protect the art pieces.

Do you own any of these beautiful pieces? Which one is your favorite and why? What do you think of them? Let us know in the comments below!

SHAO JUN (4/7) (September 2014)

[First thoughts by Nicolas Drolet (Art Director on Assassin’s Creed Embers)
The mandate of creating Shao Jun came about for Assassin’s Creed Ember’s production, the 3D animated short produced by Ubi Workshop’s co-founder Louis-Pierre Pharand, and directed by Laurent Bernier. I was fortunate: I was given a lot of creative freedom. The guys gave me a good descriptions of their needs story wise, and I got to it. Of Course, with a Chinese girl, good at hand-to-hand martial arts as well as traditional weapons, a lot of inspirational films come to mind. The most obvious one as far as I’m concerned was Crouching Tiger - Hidden Dragon. So I tried stuff with the help of multiple references: Swords, clothes, fabrics, haircuts. She had to be pretty, but plain: basically, a natural beauty, nothing vulgar or flashy.]

[Remko Troost’s rendition (Senior Concept Artist on Assassin’s Creed)
I had a blast reinterpreting Shao Jun. Not much is known about her, and this makes her quite a mysterious girl. So for this, I tried giving her this expression of mystery. For the background, as she played a role in Ezio’s adventure, I hinted at a Tuscan environment. I used the red touches to emphasize the dynamics in her pose, as well as make her shapes pop out more.]
